Museum set to debut new Steeplechase Gallery Wednesday, August 01, 2012
|
| The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will debut its newly renovated Steeplechase Gallery during the 2012 Saratoga race meet. The new space is double the size of the former location and includes three exhibition cases, additional space for art and photography, and the brand new computer interactive, Experience the ’chase.
The interactive program features numerous multimedia options, including a map of all steeplechase locations in the United States, 50 historic and contemporary races, a history of the sport, and an updated Hall of Fame inductee section. The focal point of the interactive is a National Fence style brush jump with built-in touch screen for users to access the program. The program will also play high-definition footage of horses jumping both brush and timber fences at various angles.
The renovation was made possible through the financial support of members of the steeplechase community.
“We would like to thank everyone involved in making this new gallery a reality.” Museum Curator Beth Sheffer said. “Plans to renovate the Steeplechase Gallery have been in the works for several years and we are thrilled to be able to showcase the completed project this summer.”
National Steeplechase Association President Guy Torsilieri expressed thanks to the National Museum of Racing and the Steeplechase Gallery supporters.
“The National Museum of Racing has created an exciting space and an enhanced visitor experience with the revitalized Steeplechase Gallery,” he said. “The NSA is grateful to our chairman, Beverly Steinman, and others who have provided leadership and support for this important project.”
The Steeplechase Gallery is already open to the public, but the Experience the ’chase interactive will debut on Aug. 1.
