Hall of Fame Heroes and Treasures of the Vault Wednesday, September 01, 2010 - Thursday, September 30, 2010
|
| Two exhibits, Hall of Fame Heroes and Treasures of the Vault, open to the public in July in the Peter McBean Gallery at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Because of the popularity of the original Hall of Fame Heroes, which opened in 2001 and ran through 2002, the Museum is bringing back the exhibit in 2010. It will remain on display indefinitely. Like its predecessor, the new Hall of Fame Heroes features myriad artifacts associated with Hall of Fame members.
The Museum’s Curator, Beth Sheffer, said “Many people have told me how much they loved the original exhibit and hoped the Museum would make a permanent exhibit that specifically honors Hall of Fame members with artifacts that highlight their careers. We plan to rotate objects within the gallery annually, not only to give visitors new material to view but also continue to strengthen our collection of Hall of Fame artifacts and memorabilia.”
Treasures of the Vault: 60 Years and Growing features more than 30 paintings and eight bronzes from the Museum’s Fine Art Collection. Some of the artists represented include Sir Alfred J. Munnings, George Stubbs, Edward Troye, Henry Stull, Franklin Voss, Richard Stone Reeves, John Skeaping, and Marilyn Newmark. The majority of the paintings and bronzes in the exhibit have not been on view to the public for many years.
Hall of Fame Heroes and Treasures of the Vault opens July 23, 2010. Preserving our Past reopened in the von Stade Gallery in May. This exhibit features fine art and trophies in need of conservation. |
